29 Ekim 2015 Cumhuriyet Bayramı Resepsiyonu Konuşması

Hatun Demirer 29.10.2015
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I warmly welcome you all.

Today, the Turkish nation is celebrating the 92nd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.
I congratulate the Turkish community in Bahrain on this very special occasion.
I also would like to present my sincere thanks first and foremost to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and many other friends of Turkey for their kind messages of congratulations on our national day.

Before making a short speech, I would like to start by reading out the message of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, addressed to the Turkish Community on this happy occasion. I quote -in Turkish- (English text is simultaneously reflected on the wall screens):

Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,

92 years ago, in 1923, the Republic of Turkey was created from the ashes of an Empire.

Today is the day for us to remember our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our homeland at the beginning of the last century.

Today is the day for us to remember and pay our respects to one of the most visionary leaders of his time, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Today is the day for us to proudly say that, after 92 years, Turkey is a secular democratic state governed by the rule of law, upholding universal values, such as peace, freedom, social progress, equal rights and human dignity.

Strong and competitive Turkish economy is now the 7th largest in Europe and 18th largest worldwide, and our most precious asset is our young, dynamic and skilled population.

Today, Turkey is the 6th most popular tourism destination in the world, with a 37 million visitors in 2014.

Turkey is a NATO country since 1952, having the 2nd biggest army in the alliance.

Apart from being active member of many regional and international organizations, we are determined and destined to become a member of the European Union.

Turkey is blessed with a unique geographical location. We consider ourselves a European, an Asian, a Balkan, a Caucasian, a Middle Eastern and a Mediterranean country.

That’s why we are culturally so rich, so colorful.

That’s why tolerance and coexistence based on compassion are the inherent characteristics of the Turkish nation.

Anatolia, our beloved homeland which we call motherland, has always been a safe haven for those running away from persecution for thousands of years, without any discrimination.

500 year ago, they were the Sephardims expelled from Spain who took refuge in Anatolia.

27 years ago, they were the 120 thousands of Iraqi Kurds fleeing Halabja massacre and taking refuge in Anatolia, our homeland.

24 years ago they were the half a million Iraqis fleeing the 1st Gulf War, who took refuge in our motherland Anatolia.

And today, we are proud to express that our nation’s inherent humanitarian instincts are still the same.

Today, Republic of Turkey and Turkish nation currently host more than 2 million Syrians who fled their country during these turbulent times.

Today, we have 65.000 Syrian babies born in Turkey, which means a generation growing out of their homeland. And these kids deserve a decent life in a peaceful country like all other kids do.

Our country, Republic of Turkey, as a responsible member of the international community, has always tried to positively contribute to the peace and stability of this region and the world.

Turkey is fighting against all kinds of terrorism for years now and our policies and determination to that end are well-known by our close Allies, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

“Peace at home and peace in the world” is one of the principles that we inherited from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1920’s and today in 2015, Turkey continues to promote the same principle in its region and beyond, through regional and international cooperation and concerted efforts.

Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,

Brotherly relations between Turkey and Bahrain are solid in all fields and steadily developing further for serving the interests of Turkish and Bahraini nations.

Our countries share same visions and policies on significant issues of common concern and act in solidarity and cooperation in regional and international platforms.

Our current trade volume is half a billion US Dollars.

Turkish and Bahraini peoples are increasingly interacting more. Last year more than 24.000 Bahrainis visited Turkey.

Turkish community living in Bahrain is well integrated into the Bahraini society and directly contributing to the economic development of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Before concluding my words, I will take this opportunity to thank the Bahraini authorities under the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the people of Bahrain for their warm hospitality extended to the Turkish community.

And lastly, I sincerely thank you all one more time for being here and sharing our joy and happiness on the occasion of our National Day.

Thank you!

Kemal Demirciler Ambassador
